The 3rd Annual “Dreams of Summer-AZ Camp Sunrise & Sidekicks Gala” which supports Arizona Camp Sunrise & Sidekicks through Southwest Kids' Cancer Foundation will take place at Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes 5:30-10 p.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 in Tempe, AZ. Southwest Kids' Cancer Foundation invites community supporters and gala aficionados to purchase tickets for the gala that will benefit the children and support the programs of Arizona Camp Sunrise & Sidekicks.
Through the foundation, children from Arizona and the Southwest who are fighting cancer are provided a week of summer camp at Arizona Camp Sunrise & Sidekicks at no cost to their families. Kids enjoy a traditional summer camp experience with campfires, crafts, horseback riding, fishing and much more. Additionally, they have the medical attention they need while there. They get to make life-long friends who understand the battles and unique challenges that only these children experience. During camp, all the children can relax, get out of their usual routine and forget about doctor appointments and stress. Their siblings also receive their own designated week of camp where they get to have the same fun and receive strong moral support while making new friends.
Southwest Kids’ Cancer Foundation is looking to make 2016 its biggest year, yet! This year’s gala carries the added theme of “Jello War,” a cherished camp tradition where campers have a sticky, gooey battle symbolizing their united front against fighting cancer. This year’s VIP emcee will be Norris Thomas, former Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback and now, motivational speaker.
Scottsdale.com is proud to be the official media sponsor for the Dreams of Summer Gala and is looking forward to getting the word out about this fun and prosperous event that serves hundreds of Arizona children. Features Writer and Media Specialist for Scottsdale.com, Lynette Carrington says, “I was so excited to learn that Scottsdale.com was willing to step up for the kids of Arizona Camp Sunrise & Sidekicks. This is a fantastic organization that provides unique camp experiences and programs to kids who are battling cancer who just want a chance to do something fun with other children who also share their health challenges.”

The gala will begin with a silent auction and cocktail hour followed by an elegant dinner, the always thrilling live auction, entertainment by recording artist Les Paul Roque, and dancing. Come early, stay late, and support the summer dreams of the children of Arizona Camp Sunrise & Sidekicks. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.azcampsunrise.org/gala.
Silent auction items include jewelry, gifts, art, gift certificates for goods and services, in-home chef experiences and much more. Michelle Winery in Woodinville, Washington and a stay for eight at historic Lake Street Cottage, just steps away from Payette Lake, Idaho, among many other wonderful items
Arizona Camp Sunrise & Sidekicks, the first camp in Arizona for children with cancer was founded in 1983. There were 23 cancer patients and 8 staff members in the White Mountains for the inaugural camp. Staff and children slept in tents and everyone assisted with cooking duties. In 1985, the camp moved to the R-C Scout Ranch, south of Payson. Thanks to the generous support of many, facilities now include seven cabins, a dining hall with a kitchen and a health center. The gala will help to fulfill the dreams of the children who attend this camp and its programs each year by providing vital fundraising dollars to the camp. Phoenix Marriott Tempe at The Buttes is located at 2000 W. Westcourt Way, Tempe.
